Project Introduction

WY Quality Counts’ mission is to help parents and providers provide quality care for the children in their lives.

the challenge

WYQC needed to reach families, providers, and educators statewide with one consistent voice — funding professional development for childcare providers, building resources families could actually use at home, and turning everyday moments into learning opportunities. Whether you're a parent, caregiver, or educator, WYQC needed to feel like a resource you could turn to at any stage.

The solution

By creating custom printable resources, WYQC could distribute important tips, tricks, and facts to both educators and parents. These resources could then be broken down even further for social media and platform use. Bright colors and a willingness to 'color outside the lines' helped promote the fun and engaging brand that people came to know and trust. Each resource revolved around highlighting WYQC's four key Domains of Development: Communication, Curious Minds, Sense of Self & Relationships, and Strong & Healthy Bodies.

Five illustrated parenting infographics are arranged on a pink background, featuring colorful drawings, icons, and text on topics like gentle parenting, independent play, and learning experiences for children.

Printable Activities

In addition to the downloadable resources, we created numerous printable activities for parents and providers to print off and enjoy with their kids. These activities ranged from STEM activities, art projects, outdoor adventures, and so much more.

Five illustrated STEM activity sheets with colorful drawings and text are spread out on a blue background, featuring experiments like worm farms, snow volcanoes, and fishing for your nerves.

Kindergarten Transition Toolkit

Starting kindergarten is a milestone families start preparing for long before the first day. I helped design the Kindergarten Transition Toolkit, broken into four versions — a Full Toolkit, a Family Toolkit, an Educator Toolkit, and a Communities Toolkit — so each audience could find exactly what applied to them. The full package was also translated into Spanish to reach as many Wyoming families as possible.

An open booklet on a yellow background. The left page is titled Kindergarten Transition Toolkit and includes text, colored icons, and a sectioned chart. The right page shows a smiling woman holding a joyful young girl outdoors.
An open magazine on a purple surface displays an article titled The Transition to Kindergarten, featuring colorful sections, a table of key partners, and a photo of colored pencils in a cup.
An open magazine spread in Spanish about kindergarten transition for families in Wyoming, featuring images of a child hugging a woman and a smiling child with a backpack, with information on finding services and family resource centers.
An open magazine lays flat on an orange surface, displaying an article titled “The Transition to Kindergarten.” The spread features text, photos of children, a parent holding a child, and colored sidebars with tips and examples.

WREN Ads

In partnership with WREN Magazine, WYQC produced numerous full-page advertisements that were usually placed as the key back-page ad.  These would have tips and tricks, informational material, and even activities to try with your loved ones. In addition, we would highlight a new printable activity that was specific to the WREN audience and would take them to their own landing page.

A child sitting on a couch is reading a magazine. The visible pages show a boy with a backpack and the heading “Easing Through Transitions.” The opposite cover page features a person riding a horse.

Explorers Club

During Linden’s tenure with WYQC, we created two unique characters called Chuck and Pepper. An entire children’s book, puppets, and an informational guide were made based on these characters. In addition to these assets, the Chuck and Pepper’s Explorers Club was born. This club utilized these characters to create activities specifically to get kids out into nature and explore the beautiful outdoors of Wyoming. This also used graphics of Chuck and Pepper interacting with kids in the real world to help stimulate the imagination of these characters as adventure guides.

A website page features cartoon animals exploring a park, a young girl outdoors, animated scenes of geysers and forests, and informational sections about kids activities at Yellowstone National Park.

the result

WYQC was a vast network of resources for educators and parents. Literal hundreds of resources, activities, kits, guides, and developmental resources were created and distributed all across the state of Wyoming. Through the resources developed, we make sure quality learning and living practices were accessible to everyone in Wyoming.
